Maeve Boothby O’Neill, a 27-year-old woman from Exeter, England, was too sick to digest food, yet over the course of three separate hospital admissions, she was denied life-saving interventions because medical staff attributed her health issues to deliberate behavior. Instead of giving her the nutrients she needed to live, they considered placing her in a psychiatric facility.
