Expect the Astrology of 2026 to Dramatically Change Our Lives
The rumors are true: 2026 is here, and so is back-to-back heavy-hitting astrology that is guaranteed to change everything. Before you roll your eyes, listen closely. This isn’t lip service; the New Year will truly deliver on its promises: We’re talking planets moving into signs for the first time since the American Civil War, eclipses activating entirely new karmic story lines, and aspects so rare that most living astrologers have never experienced them firsthand.
So yes — it’s a big one.
To help you understand exactly how tremendous these next 12 months will be, we’ve put together this comprehensive guide to the astrology of 2026. So, uh, here goes nothing?
The Biggest (and Baddest) Astrological Shifts to Expect in 2026
.
Neptune in Aries
The year opens with a planetary event so rare it hasn’t happened since 1861 (the first year of the Civil War? Say less!). On January 26, Neptune — the planet of dreams, illusions, and delusions — will enter Aries, the first sign of the zodiac. This is the beginning of the beginning: the start of a brand-new era. And because this is Aries we’re talking about, this shift will be obvious. Aries demands action. Aries takes risks. Aries isn’t afraid to stand up for its convictions. On a collective level, this will look like a new wave of political, spiritual, and cultural activism. We’re entering an era of radical independence, where personal beliefs replace institutional dogma. This is the era of fighting for what you believe in.
Keep in mind that Neptune did have a brief jaunt through Aries from March 30, 2025, through October 22, 2025, before going retrograde and returning to Pisces, so consider what was going on in your life during that duration — both practically and energetically. Were you starting new projects? Building new relationships? Exploring a major career pivot? If exciting potential fizzled out by the fall, don’t be surprised if these narratives resume when Neptune moves back into Aries at the top of 2026. And this time, it’s not going anywhere: Neptune will remain in Aries for the next 14 years, until 2039.
.
Saturn in Aries
Just a few weeks later, on February 13, another heavyweight joins Neptune in Aries — and this is when we’ll really start to feel the change. Saturn, the planet of structure, responsibility, and consequences, will enter the first sign of the zodiac for the first time since 1996. Unlike Neptune, which is nebulous and fluid, Saturn demands accountability. Which means Saturn in Aries will push you to take ownership of your life, your choices, and your future, even when that feels uncomfortable. Saturn will remain in Aries until 2028, meaning all of us are entering a new chapter of maturation — and anyone born between 1996–1999 (as well as 1967–1969 and 1937–1940) is officially entering their Saturn return, complete with milestones, tests, and defining moments.
Like Neptune, Saturn also dipped briefly into Aries in 2025 (from May 24 through September 1), offering a preview of the work ahead. Think back to that period: Where were you being asked to grow up, step up, or make a tough call? If those themes felt unfinished, they’re coming back — louder and stronger than before. And even though wise Saturn doesn’t love to be in this youthful, foolhardy fire sign (it’s considered to be in its “fall” in this position), we will inevitably learn a lot from this powerful pivot; perhaps most important, how to stand up for ourselves against any and all odds.
.
Uranus in Gemini
On April 25, Uranus will head into Gemini for the first time since 1941 — and since Uranus has a long orbit (84 years!), its entry into a new section of the sky signals a major shift for the collective. Uranus is the planet of revolution, disruption, and sudden awakening, and Gemini governs communication, media, transportation, technology, and the way information moves through the world. Accordingly, when these two forces meet, systems begin to crack open and rewire themselves. Expect this transit to initiate a reinvention of how humans think, speak, learn, and connect, from the digital tools we rely on to the networks that shape public opinion and our perception of reality.
We did get a brief preview of this energy in 2025, when Uranus journeyed into Gemini from July 7 through November 7, so think back to what felt unstable, accelerated, or suddenly outdated during that window. If it seemed like the ground was shifting under your feet — especially around technology, communication, or how you were forming connections — that was just a taste. In 2026, Uranus settles in for the long haul — until 2033.
Historically, Uranus in Gemini has aligned with major conflicts: the Revolutionary War (Uranus in Gemini from 1775–1781), the Civil War (Uranus in Gemini from 1859–1865), and World War II (Uranus in Gemini from 1941–1948). What’s more, Uranus also occupies Gemini in the United States’ birth chart, meaning the country is now entering its Uranus return, a rare period of radical reinvention. While this doesn’t guarantee war (a girl can dream!), it does signal massive upheaval … and the inevitable collapse of outdated systems.
Okay, stop screaming! Personally, I believe this current iteration of Uranus in Gemini will be less about civilians fighting each other and more about how we direct that anger toward the plutocrats and the systems themselves. Information economies, digital infrastructure, and who controls truth in an age where reality is increasingly fragmented (especially with AI) will be the next battlefield. And maybe a little class uprising, too. Again, a girl can dream!
.
Chiron in Taurus
On June 19, Chiron — a powerful and noteworthy comet — will enter Taurus for the first time since 1976, opening a new chapter in collective healing that’s far more embodied, practical, and grounded than what we’ve been navigating over the past several years. Chiron represents our deepest wounds, as well as our ability to alchemize pain into power. Since 2019, Chiron’s journey through Aries has centered on healing around identity, confidence, and the right to take up space. In Taurus, however, the work becomes more tangible. Taurus governs the body, the land, food systems, money, resources, and our most fundamental sense of safety. This is about what sustains life — and what happens when that stability has been disrupted.
Over the coming years, themes around ecology, sustainability, food integrity, financial security, and embodied healing rise to the surface, demanding restorative solutions. But keep in mind that, in 2026, we’ll just be dipping a toe into this new Chiron-in-Taurus journey: On September 17, Chiron shifts back into Aries, offering a final pass over the identity wounds we’ve been working through since 2019. In early 2027, Chiron will shift into Taurus’s narrative long-term, remaining in this earth sign through 2033.
.
Jupiter in Leo
At the height of summer, the mood will shift — and honestly, we’re going to need a little relief! On June 30, Jupiter enters Leo for the first time since 2014, ushering in a year of creative expansion, visibility, and unapologetic self-expression. Jupiter expands whatever it touches, and Leo rules artistry, confidence, leadership, and the desire to be seen for who you actually are.
Culturally, this transit signals a return to maximalism. Consider clean-girl aesthetic and sad beige officially over — long live loud prints! Huge hair! Rock operas! We’ll be craving spectacle, personality, and pleasure. Jupiter in Leo encourages us to take up space, claim our talents, and lead from the heart. After so much disruption and reinvention, this transit will come at exactly the right time.
A Rundown of the Eclipses of 2026
In 2026, we enter an entirely new eclipse story line on the Leo-Aquarius axis for the first time since 2016–2019 — a shift that becomes even more significant when the North Node moves into Aquarius on July 26, officially redirecting the karmic story line toward themes of identity, visibility, and community. While we’re still finishing the Virgo-Pisces eclipse cycle that began in 2024, this new series introduces a parallel narrative that pulls us forward, asking how we show up as individuals within the collective.
If you have planets or nodes in Leo or Aquarius — or if your life was radically reshaped between 2016 and 2019 — pay attention; those ten-year-old stories will pick back up again in a major way on or around the below dates:
February 17: Solar eclipse in Aquarius 28 degrees
August 12: Solar eclipse in Leo 20 degrees
Alongside the brand-new Leo-Aquarius eclipses, we’re continuing the eclipse story line that began in 2024 on the Virgo-Pisces axis. This series has been guiding us through themes of healing, service, surrender, and the balance between practicality and faith — asking us to reconcile the need to fix with the need to feel. By this point, this narrative is well underway (the final eclipse on this series will take place in 2027), and so these Virgo-Pisces eclipses speak more to integration rather than initiation.
March 3: Lunar eclipse in Virgo 12 degrees
August 28: Lunar eclipse in Pisces 4 degrees
When Is Mercury Retrograde in 2026?
Compared to everything else happening in 2026, Mercury retrograde feels tame? All three Mercury retrogrades this year occur in water signs, setting a consistent emotional tone across the calendar. With Mercury moving backward through Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio, the retrogrades trace a clear arc: from psychic breakthroughs to emotional foundation to psychological depth. Rather than push us to fix or resolve everything immediately, these retrogrades slow the pace just enough to help us understand what we’re actually responding to — and why. In a year defined by massive external change, Mercury’s water-sign retrogrades act as an internal counterbalance, reminding us that clarity doesn’t always come from more information but from deeper honesty with ourselves.
February 26–March 20: Mercury retrograde in Pisces
June 29–July 23: Mercury retrograde in Cancer
October 24–November 13: Mercury retrograde in Scorpio
.
Don’t Forget About Venus Retrograde
More significant than any Mercury retrograde this year is Venus retrograde — a rare, potent transit that reshapes how we relate, attach, and value. From October 3 to November 13 (which, interestingly, is the day the last Mercury retrograde ends), Venus will go backwards for 40 days and 40 nights across Scorpio and into Libra, inviting us to shift our perspective on relationships, value, love, and beauty.
This one moves through a part of the zodiac ancient astrologers referred to as via combusta — the fiery road — an intense section of the sky associated with purification, confrontation, and irreversible change. The last time we were here was fall 2018, so think back to that period, as certain narratives or themes — or even people! — may surface again.
What About Aspects in 2026?
Aspects refer to relationships made between the planets — and this year, we will experience a few notable connections that (you guessed it!) are incredibly unusual and undoubtedly important.
.
Saturn Conjunct Neptune
On February 20, a powerful conjunction will kick off a brand-new cycle that hasn’t renewed for 36 years: Saturn meets Neptune at 0 degrees Aries, forming their first conjunction since 1989. It’s rare that these planets meet, but each time they do, the world undergoes a massive structural and ideological reset (for example, the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989).
But this conjunction is even more exceptional than the one that happened 36 years ago, because it occurs at the very first degree of the zodiac, which astrologers refer to as the “World Axis.” This is an ignition point; the beginning of a brand-new era. Together at 0 degrees Aries, these planets mark the end of one cycle and the launch of another — rewriting cultural narratives, reshaping political structures, and redefining identity at both a collective and personal level. It sets the tone not just for the year ahead, but for the next three decades … and maybe even for many lifetimes to come. This is the type of astrological happening we’ll look back on and say, “Wow, yeah, I guess everything did change after that.”
.
The July Basket
July is shaping up to be one of the most astrologically charged months of the entire decade. Throughout the month, a powerful configuration will form involving multiple outer planets aligning at the same degree of their respective signs (4 degrees, to be exact), creating what astrologers refer to as a Basket. A Basket is a rare aspect pattern in which several planets work together in harmony, but with a single point of tension that gives the energy direction; it’s focused, activated, and moving toward a clear outcome.
What makes this configuration extraordinary is that the biggest planets are all talking to each other at once. Uranus links with Neptune and Pluto, Jupiter connects the entire pattern, and Pluto provides the necessary pressure that activates the whole structure. The last time we saw anything remotely comparable was generations ago, which is why July 2026 is poised to generate transformation that feels inspiring, galvanizing, and energizing. The future is now!
